Angus Maughan Taken by Death Veteran educator Angus M. Maughan, 74, of 646 S. 560 E., died Monday at 2:30 p.m. at his home after a lingering illness. He was born in Weston Idaho, the son of Harrison D. and Mary Elizabeth Freestone Maughan. He married Susie Keller June 10, 1915, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died Nov. 30, 1947. He then married Crystal Rasmussen June 29, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple. He received his early education in north Cache Valley schools. He was a graduate of Utah State University where he received his degree in physics and chemistry. He served at the university as a research chemist and instructor. Mr. Maughan began his teaching career in Southern Idaho in 1925 at Malad, where he later became superintendent of schools. In 1933 he moved to Richfield, where he was principal of Richfield High School. In 1943 he moved to Fillmore where he was superintendent of the Millard County School District. In 1953 he moved to Orem where he taught at Orem High School until he retired in 1956, after 41 years of service. He was past president of the Southern Utah Teachers Association and pasta president of Utah High School Athletic and Activity Association, a member of Lions Club for 20 years, and past member of the Timpanogos Knife and Fork Club. Mr. Maughan was an active member of the LDS Church and held the position of high priest and served two years in the Eastern States Mission. He served in the bishopric at Richfield, and on the Sharon Stake Sunday School Board and was past Sharon Stake librarian. Survivors include his wife of Orem; two sons and three daughters, Angus Murray Maughan of Los Cruces, NM; John Warren Maughan and Miss Crystal Lucy Maughan, both of Orem; Mrs. Glen (Lila) Peglau of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Robert (Flora Mae) Steed of Casper WY; 14 grandchildren; five brothers and one sister, J. Raymond Maughan of Bountiful; J. Howard Maughan of Logan; George Harrison Maughan of Ridgecrest, Calif.; Col. Elvin F. Maughan of Los Altos, Calif., and Mrs. Elsie M. Belliston of Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held in the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, Provo, Thursday at 11 a.m. with Bishop James J. Pinegar of the Orem 13th LDS Ward officiating. Friends may call at the Mortuary this morning prior to services. Burial will be in Logan City Cemetery Thursday at 4 p.m.
