Following info was provided by F.A.G. Contributor.... ....Dan Kemp (#47519405): "George W. Kemp was the 9th child born to William and Elizabeth Finch Kemp. He was born in Spencer County, Indiana on October 6, 1841. George was living in the Waterford Township of Clinton County, Iowa when he enlisted in the Union Army in October of 1861. George's sister, Sarah Kemp Varner also lived in Waterford and I suspect that George lived with her family although I have no proof. George was listed as a Division Teamster in Company A, 15th Iowa Infantry. Later he would serve as an ambulance driver. He reenlisted in in January of 1864 and was discharged in June of 1865 with a disability certificate. Family legend relates that George died at Sarah Kemp Varner's home shortly after his discharge. His grave has no marker and is by now long forgotten. George W. Kemp is often confused with a George A. Kemp who also served from the state of Iowa. Their records are mixed together and very confusing to anyone researching either one of the men." THANKS DAN ! .
