Bio

Adrian A. Kusek, 81, of Burwell died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Valley County Nursing Home in Ord. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. the Rev. Hubert Spanel will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by Ord American Legion Post 38 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1079. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ord Memorial Chapel with a 7 p.m. rosary. Mr. Kusek was born may 23, 1921, on the family farm in the Elyria Township of Valley County to Andrew and Clara (Czuba) Kusek. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Evelyn; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Helen of Ord, James and Maura of Martinsdale, Mont., and Chuck and JoNon of Burwell; five sisters and a brother-in-law, Mildred Kusek, Sister Bonaventure Kusek, Sister Lenore Kusek, Sister Clara Frances Kusek, all of Chicago, and Helen and Don Glatter of Amherst; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Betty Kusek of Boring, Ore, and Andy and Genevieve Kusek of Ord; and a sister-in-law, Ardath Kusek of Burwell. Also surviving include 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Kusek attendee Fort Hartsuff Rural School and Elyria High School. From Aug. 19, 1942 to Oct. 30, 1945, he served in the U.S, Marine Corps during World War II. He was stationed in Alaska for 18 months and on the USS New Mexico for nine months. After his honorable discharge from the service, he farmed north of Elyria with his father. On Oct. 8, 1947, he married Evelyn Papiernik at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The couple farmed on the family homestead for three years before moving to a farm near Fort Hartsuff that they purchased in 1948. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister, and he belonged to the knights of Columbus. he served on the Fort Hartsuff School Board, North Loup Valley Irrigation District Board and was past president of the National Farmers Organization. For the past 20 years, he was the sexton of the Elyria Cemetery. He enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, reading, fishing and golf. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Henry and Bernard, and a sister, Marie Suminski. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
