KEARNEY — Helen M. Glatter, 88, of Amherst died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with the Revs. Jose Chavez, Joe Hannappel and Alex Borzych officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. She was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Valley County to Andrew and Clara (Czuba) Kusek. On June 10, 1947, she married Donald V. Glatter in Elyria. Survivors include her husband; sons, L.D. Glatter and his wife, Becky, of Lawrence, Kan., David Glatter of Amherst, John Glatter and his wife, Barbara, of Arvada, Colo., Daniel Glatter and his wife, Henrietta, and Mark Glatter and his wife, Kathy, all of Kearney, Michael Glatter and his wife, Diana, of San Diego, Matthew Glatter and his wife, Crystal, of Sumner, Donald Glatter and his friend, Christina Johnson, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Christopher Glatter and his wife, Stacie, of Gretna; daughters, Trish Glatter of Las Vegas, Mary Jo Sumrall and her husband, Steve, of Fraser, Colo., Anita Trimble and her husband, Layne, of Kearney, Helen Glatter of Amherst and Susan Gallagher and her husband, John, of Salem, Ore.; 24 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd Kusek and his wife, Betty, of Boring, Ore.; sisters, Sister Lenore Kusek and Sister Clara Frances Kusek, both of Chicago; sisters-in-law, Ardath Kusek of Burwell, Evelyn Kusek of Ord, Gen Kusek of Seward and Sister Ann Glatter of Concordia, Kan.; and brother-in-law, Tony Hittner of Salina, Kan. She graduated from Ord High School in 1942. She attended one year of college and then taught country school near Fort Hartsuff. Helen and Donald lived and worked on the family farm northeast of Amherst for 67 years. Helen was a member of St. John Capistran, D.C.C.W., extension club and Amherst Lions Club. She loved spending time with her family, especially grandchildren, making pressed flower cards, baking, gardening, quilting, sewing, playing cards, making banners and garments for the church, making cornhusk dolls, reading the Bible, teaching CCD, and attending ecumenical Bible study. She was a uniquely creative person. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margret Glatter; granddaughter, Mary Kaitlyn Glatter; brothers, Henry, Adrian, Bernard and Andrew Kusek; and sisters, Marie Suminski, Mildred Kusek and Sister Bonaventure Kusek.
