Herald Coaster, February 23, 1998: Funeral services for Julia F. Novak, 92, of Needville, were held on Mon., Feb.23, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville, with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. A rosary service was held on Sun., Feb. 22, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Father James Ramsey officiated the services. Pallbearers were Michael Waterloo, Emil Matura, Anthony Stransky, Jerry Junior Dirba, Johnnie Novak, David Novak, Ludy Novak, and Stephen Marshall. She was born on March 29, 1905 in Fayetteville to Anna (Petter) and Peter Chovanec, and she passed away on Feb. 20, 1998 at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond. On Nov. 11, 1926, Julia married John W. Novak, also of Fayetteville. They moved to the vicinity of Needville around 1944. They have 15 children living, John and Josephine (Kalisek) Novak of Port Lavaca, Ludvik and Mildred (Graeber) Novak of Needville, Frank and Marie (Holchak) Novak of Houston, Julie and Jerry Dirba of Richwood, Theresa and James Todd of Scott, LA, Annie Mae and Joe Stransky, and Tonie and Wilburn Kramer of Needville, Anton and Patsy (Zak) Novak of Manvel, Evelyn and Pete Waterloo of Crosby, Tim and Bernadette (Zientek) Novak of Needville, Mary Andel of Sugar Land, Martha and Emil Matura of Houston, Joe and Nancy (Polensky) Novak of El Campo, Adela and John Wadephul of Orchard, and Frances and Robert Marshall of Alvin. Julia Novak has 61 living grandchilcren; 77 living great-grandchildren; and one living great-great-granddaughter. She has one sister, Albina Chovanec of Monument Hill Nursing Home in La Grange. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John W. Novak; one son, Edwin Novak; her parents, Anna and Peter Chovanec; her brothers and sisters, Mary Zapalac, Sophie Slansky, Annie Novak, Peter, Ludvik, and Henry Chovanec; three grandchildren, Rose Mary Dirba, Mark Allen Kramer, and Gary Novak; and a great-grandchildren, Christopher Kurtz. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the KJZT Society, and the Altar Society. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church Building Fund.
