This source also provided his middle and stated that his mother's maiden name was "Petru." He is buried with Philomena Gremla Smetak and they are buried next to Bernard A. Smetak, who is buried next to Janet Marie Smetak Dunavant. --------------------- Bernard Smetak, Sr., age 86, formerly a West resident, died Friday, March 11, 1983 in La Habra, California. He had lived in California for 55 years. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Coleman Mortuary in La Habra. Christian burial was at 9 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of La Habra. Burial followed at Queen of Angel Cemetery in La Habra. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Trendel of La Habra; one son, George Smetak of Downy; one son, Bernard Smetak, Jr. preceded him in death in 1980; one sister, Mrs. Eddie (Millie) Mcaig and one brother, Fred Smetak, both of Dallas; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was married to the former Phelomena Grmela of West; she preceded him in death in 1982. He was a World War I veteran, member of Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society and he was an usher for many years in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in La Habra.
