The days, months, and locations of Philomena's birth and death were found in the California Death Records Index. This source also provided her maiden name and stated that her mother's maiden name was "Barton." She is buried with Bernard Frank Smetak, and they are buried next to Bernard A. Smetak, who is buried next to Janet Marie Smetak Dunavant. ~ Philomena Smetak, age 81, passed away Sunday evening in her home in La Habra, Calif. She had been living in California over 50 years. Survivors include her husband, Bernard Smetak; one daughter, Virginia Trendel; one son, George Smetak; 13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of California; her brothers and sisters, all of the West area: S. Grmela of Abbott, Louis Grmela of Abbott, John Grmela of Malone, Lillie Rejcek of Itasca and Martha Hejil of Hillsboro. Services were at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in La Habra.
