Mrs. Marie Smetak Buried Wednesday Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Smetak, who died April 1 at her home in Los Angeles, California, were held here at the Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Father Charles W. Smid of Abbott officiated, burial in the Catholic Cemetery at West. Mrs. Smetak was born in Czechoslovakia, but had been a resident of this section for many years until she moved to California some two years ago. She is survived by her husband, Fred Smetak; seven sons, William Smetak of Chicago, Barnard Smetak of Los Angeles, Alphonse Smetak of Los Angeles, Florian Smetak of Los Angeles, and Louis and Fred Smetak, Jr. of Dallas; three daughters, Mrs. Emily McCaig of Los Angeles, Mrs. Frances Phillips of Waco and Mrs. Georgia Flaherty of Los Angeles; 36 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The body arrived in West at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold’s Chapel. The West News, West, Texas, Vol. 59, No. 47, Ed. 1 – Friday, April 8, 1949
