WEST—Mrs. Ed (Josephine) Matus, 83, of West, formerly of Waco and Tours, died Thursday afternoon, June 26 in a West hospital. Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Melvin Dornak as celebrant. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. Mrs. Matus was born Oct. 28, 1913 in Tours and had lived most of her life in the Waco area before moving to West three years ago. While in Waco, she was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, the St. Louis Society and K.J.Z.T. Society No. 11 of West. She was Mother of the Year at West Rest Haven in 1995 and she and her husband Ed were to have been residents of the month for the month of July. She married Ed Matus in 1937 in West. Mrs. Matus was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Wilhite, who died in 1979. Survivors include her husband, Ed Matus of West; two sons, Wilburn Matus of Hewitt and Joe Ed Matus of Plano; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Joyce) Wilhite of McGregor; a brother, Robert Podsednik of Leroy, two sisters, Rebecca Bray of West and Adeline Davis of Iowa; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
