Source: Peoria Journal Star March 19, 1996 Mary Doreen Johnson, 55, of 4284 Marcilla Court, San Diego, formerly of Peoria, died at 4: Friday, March 15, 1996 at Scripps Memorial Hospital in LaJolla, Calif. Born Jan. 3, 1941, in Sparland to Stephen and Evelyn O’Brien Streitmatter, she married Charles “Chuck” Johnson on Feb. 14, 1984. He survives. Also surviving are one son, Kenneth E. Hofer of Washington, Ill; one daughter, M. Brenda Ingles of Peoria; three grandchildren; one brother, Paul Streitmatter of Sparland; and one sister, Mauritta Berlett of Creve Couer. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. She worked in the surgery department at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. She later worked in the surgery department at Scripps Memorial Hospital in LaJolla for 10 years. She attended Western Illinois University and graduated from Saint Francis Medical Center School of Nursing in 1974. She received her bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Francs in Joliet in may 1985. She was a member of the Immaculata Parish in San Diego. In 1990, she entered the adult religious education program through the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego. After graduating from this program, she developed the Christian Initiation for adults at the parish. Services will be at 10am Friday at Wilton Mortuary. Deacon Earl Hietter will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Thursday at the mortuary, with recitation of the rosary at 8 pm. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Camp Grove. Memorials may be made to the Doreen Johnson Fund at Scripps Memorial Hospital in LaJolla or the Immaculata Liturgical Fund. Contributor: Ethel
