Bio

The Winterset Madisonian Winterset, Iowa July 29, 1914 Page 1 DEATH OF MRS. REUAH KALE On last Saturday evening, July 26th, there passed away another Madison county pioneer in the person of Mrs. James Kale of Scott township. Her maiden name was Reuah Evaline King, daughter of Noah King, one of the early pioneers of the county. She was born in Menard county, Illinois, Sept. 15, 1844, came with her parents to Iowa when a young girl. She was married to James Kale, Feb. 21, 1867. She was loved and respected by all the people in her vicinity for her hospitality and kindly disposition. She became a member of the Presbyterian church early in life, and afterward joined the Methodist church at Elm Grove, of which church she was a member till death. Mrs. Kale began to fail in health some time ago, but her last illness was of short duration, lasting about two weeks. The family consisted of seven children, all of whom are still living. They are as follows: Wilbur, of South township; J. A., of Edmonton, B.C. Who could not be reached in time to get here for the funeral; Fred of Scott township; Lester, of Union township; Ora, of Des Moines; Mrs. Ora Husted, of Scott township and Mrs. E. E. McNeley of Des Moines. In the death of this estimable woman will result the dissolution of a happy home which remained unchanged as to location from the time of her marriage, till her death, a period of nearly a half century. The funeral occurred at the home last Monday afternoon, and was attended by a large concourse of people; most of the people of the neighborhood, many from St. Charles, Truro and Winterset being present. The services were conducted by Rev. W. W. Williams of St. Charles, an old friend and a pastor of the family. The burial was at the Winterset cemetery. Contributor: Marty & Harley
