Walter F. Sternadel of Eugene, Oregon died May 26 of pneumonia. He was 85. He was born Feb. 9, 1920, in West, Texas, to Frank and Rosalie Sykora Sternadel. He attended St. Mary's School in West, Texas. He married Evelyn Gerik on Sept. 29, 1947, in Waco, Texas. A resident of Granada Hills and Redding, Calif., before moving to Eugene in 1998, he attended Sawyer Business College and Stanford University in California. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Sternadel was employed in the aerospace industry and was vice president of finance for Northrup Company. He retired in 1985 after 35 years there. He enjoyed fishing, golf, boating and camping. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the Elks and Eagles lodges. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Connie Nelson of Washington, D.C., and Karen Sternadel of Marcola; a son, Dan of Philomath; a sister, Mary Vrana of West, Texas; and six grandchildren. Two sons died previously, Joseph in 1962 and Jim in 2002.
