Bio

Mary Lillian Vrana, 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, in Waco. Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at Church of the Assumption in West. Funeral mass will follow the rosary. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Mary was born in Canadian, Texas, to the late Frank and Rosa Sternadel, and grew up and lived most of her life in West. Although she and her husband, Jim lived in West, they spent most of their earlier times farming in the Cottonwood and Elm Mott areas, and later moved to Bellmead. A founding member of SPJST, Mary and Jim worked tirelessly as volunteers at the hall for over 50 years and were honored members. Mary loved to cook, dance, sew, play bingo, garden, raise doves, and have big garage sales. She never met anyone that she didn't like and made friends wherever she went, in all stages of her life. She spent the last years of her life as a resident of Rest Haven in West, where she enjoyed many of her old friends and the activities they shared. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jim. Survivors include her son, Leo Eugene Vrana and wife, Sandra, of Vacaville, Calif.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; close nephew, Harry Vrana and his family, of Longview; as well as other nieces and nephews.
