Bio

ORD-- Irene A. Papiernik, 89, of Ord, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at the Holmes Lake Manor in Lincoln. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Lou Nolette will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Papiernik was born June 9, 1915 at Valley County to Phillip and Josie M. (Ciemny) Osentowski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, on Oct. 19, 1978 Survivors of her immediate family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Donna Dobbins of San Gregario, Calif., and Michael C. and Betty Papiernik of Ord; one daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Phil Lagoni of South Bend. ------------------------------------------------------- Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Irene was raised on the family farm in Valley County northwest of the Boleszyn Church. She received her education at District No. 32 and graduated from Ord High School in 1933. In 1935 she received a teaching certificate from Kearney State. She then taught rural school in Garfield and Valley Counties for nine years. When World War II broke out she moved to California where she worked the defense plant in Los Angeles. On Oct. 27, 1945, she married Chester T. Papiernik in Los Angeles. In 1946 the couple moved to Nebraska where they farmed in Valley County until 1979 when Irene moved into Ord. She moved to Lincoln in June 2001. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar Society at Elyria from 1946 to 1979. When she moved into Ord she was then a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She also belonged to the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and baking. In addition to her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister.
