Fort Bend Herald, July 14, 2010: Beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Joe J. Janecka Sr., 88, passed away peacefully Monday, July 12, 2010, at Atrium Medical Center. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a. m., Friday, July 16, 2010 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg with the Rev. William D. Bartniski officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m., with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p. m., followed by a wake service, Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Joe was born February 3, 1922 to Edward and Josephine (Anders) Janecka in Holman, Texas, and later moved to Ft. Bend County with his parents. As a child, he lived in Needville, Beasley, and Rosenberg and attended schools at Tavner, Foster and Richmond. He is preceded in death by his wife, Christine Janecka in 2008; parents, Edward and Josephine Janecka; brother, Rudolph (Fatty) Janecka, sisters, Francis Richter, Lilly Sbrusch, Edna Straznicky-Janik, and infant sister, Georgie. He is lovingly survived by son, Joe J. Janecka Jr. and wife Judy, of Richmond; daughters, Betty Jane Gajewski and husband, Victor, of Sealy, Patricia Marie Kuba and husband, Andrew, of Rosenberg, and Peggy Ann Hruzek and husband, Douglas, of Rosenberg ; 10 grandchildren, Darrell Wayne Gajewski and wife, Mary, of Sealy, Wesley Gajewski of Sealy, Jennifer Ann Frnka and husband, Gregory, of Richmond, Joseph J. Janecka, III, of Richmond, Justin G. Janecka, of College Station, John C. Kuba and wife, Melissa, of Buffalo Gap, Timothy J. Kuba, of College Station, Ann Elizabeth Kuba of Rosenberg, Hayden D. Hruzek of College Station, and Grant Hruzek of Rosenberg; 4 great-grandchildren, Adam and Jacob Gajewski of Sealy, and Jocelynn and Mackensie Frnka of Richmond; sisters-in-law, Victoria Valicek and Evelyn Witzkoski of Rosenberg, Rosie Lewandowski of McAllen; brother-in-law Benny Richter of Rosenberg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. As a young man, Joe worked as an attendant at the O.E. Bender Humble Filling station in Richmond. From 1939-1950 he worked as a roughneck for several oil companies including Humble, Superior Oil of California, Zapata Oil, Homes Drilling, Gold Rush Drilling, and Nichols Oil. In 1951, he worked as a brick mason for the Dow Chemical Company in Freeport and retired after 31 years of service. Over the years he farmed and raised cattle and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Joe was a member of Knights of Columbus and the International Union of Operating Engineers. His favorite pastimes were gardening and fishing at Sargent with his late wife, Christine, and relaxing on his patio watching the red birds and his cattle grazing in the back pasture. He also enjoyed camping with his children and grandchildren at Garner State Park in Leakey, Texas. He never met a stranger and was never at a loss for words. He loved talking to people and enjoyed reading and keeping up with politics and local events. The family wishes to express special thanks to his caregiver Charlotte Rhemann, Irma Hernandez, Mary Jane Navarro and the staff at Cambridge Rehab, Atrium Medical Center, and Drs. Ordonez, Muhamid, Molina and Ivy, as well as all of his friends and family who were inquiring about his health and wellbeing and sending their wishes.
