FORMER GALENA WOMAN DIES IN COLORADO A telegram was received Sunday morning by J. W. Craig, announcing the death of his sister, Mrs. Maggie E. Rhodes, at Pueblo, Colorado. Another brother, Charles Craig, a sister Mrs. J L Montgomery and the mother, Mrs. Mary Angelberger, all of Galena and vicinity also survive. Death was due to influenza which developed into pneumonia. Mrs. Rhodes with her husband, R G Rhodes [sic: Uri G Rhodes] and family, formerly resided in Galena and conducted a grocery store in East Galena. Mr. Rhodes died 12 years ago in Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Delia Davies, a daughter, will accompany the body to Los Angeles California for interment. Galena Weekly Republican, Galena, Kansas 02 March 1923, Friday, Page 7 Biographical Notes: Maggie was the daughter of John Harrison Craig and Sarah Elizabeth Craig. She was born in Montgomery County, Missouri, near Danville, in the month of April. Maggie married Uri G Rhodes on 19 October 1881, in Cherokee County, Kansas. The couple had two known children: Della M Rhodes Davies, and Olivette M Rhodes Lane, wife of William M Lane. The family moved to Pueblo, Colorado, before 1900. Their daughter Della married there on April 28, of 1904 to James R Davies. In 1920, Maggie lived with William and Olivette, but moved back to Colorado before her death there in 1923. The mother mentioned in her death notice, Mary Angelberger (AKA Angleberger), was her step-mother.
