Bio

Ben was the son of Frederick and Mary Ida Derry Ferris. They were married in Fulton County, IL on 25 Mar 1894. They moved to OK between 903 and 1910. Ben married Nora Thomas 19 Feb 1921 in Jester, Greer County, OK. They were the parents of 9 children. Ben H. Ferris, 72 year old retired bricklayer, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday in Shamrock General Hospital, following a short illness. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Eleventh Street Baptist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Dave Alexander, pastor of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church of Wheeler, assisted by the Rev. Dan Hoover, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Shamrock. Servicing as pallbearers were: Audrey Downs, Murl Kuhlman, Edsel Whitaker, David, James and Jack Woodruff. Richerson Funeral Home was in charge of interment in Shamrock Cemetery. Mr. Ferris was born April 20, 1895, in Ipava, Ill., and was married to Miss Nora Alfie Thomas at Reed, Okla., February 19, 1921. They moved to Shamrock in 1938. Mr. Ferris was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Nora, of the home, 127 East 15th Street; three daughters, Mrs. B.W. Felton of Amarillo, Mrs. H.L. Smith of McLean, and Mrs. Mace Jones of Borger; six sons, Ben H. Jr of Fresno, Calif., Howard R, of Eagle Mountain, Calif, Fred and Tex, both of Shamrock, Kenneth of Elk City, Okla., and M.B. of Pampa. Also surviving are 37 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Leonard Lamb of DeLeon, and a brother, Perry, of South Gate, Calif. Shamrock Texan.
