Bio

Final rites for Floyd P. Ferris, 68, of Shamrock, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Christian church. Officiating was the Rev. Dan Hoover, Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, assisted by the Rev. R.L. Whitaker, a Baptist minister of Sayre, Oklahoma. Mr. Ferris died about 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, in Shamrock General Hospital. He had been in ill health for several years but his death was sudden. Serving as pallbearers at the funeral services were: R.O. Lister, E.H. Woodruff, Jess Pennington, Cleo Vick, W.A. Sims and Charles Wiebe. Clay Funeral Home was in charge of interment in Shamrock Cemetery. Mr. Ferris was born February 14, 1899, in Ipava, Ill. He had made his home in Shamrock for about 14 years and had resided at Magic City prior to that time. Before coming to Wheeler County, he was a resident of Oklahoma. Mr. Ferris was married to Mrs. Mabel McQuary on September 18, 1963, in Shamrock. He was a retired farmer and a member of the First Christian Church of this city. Survivors include: his wife, Mabel, of the home, 203 South Missouri Street; two brothers, Ben Ferris of Shamrock, and Perry Ferris of South Gate, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Daphene Lamb of Deleon; a step-son, Lewis Tuxhorn of Oberlin, Kan., and a step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Pearl McKelvy of Lubbock.
