Bio
Almeda was the second child of Fred and Mary Ida Derry Ferris. She was named after Ida's mother, Almeda Rogers Derry. Fred and Ida were married in Lewistown, Fulton County, IL on 25 Mar 1894. They continued to live in Fulton county where they had a total of 4 children. Fred's brother, Clarence and his family moved to OK territory sometime about 1901 and it is likely that is when Fred and his family also made the move from Illinois to OK. Here they remained, died and were buried, while all of their 4 children moved on to Texas. The 1920 census also lists a "boarder" Dalphene Smith, aged 1 who is still living with them in 1930 and now called Dalphene Ferris, daughter. It is not known if Fred and Ida adopted this little girl. Almeda never married and is buried beside her brother, Floyd who also remained a bachelor. Miss Almeda Fary Ferris, 62, a resident of Shamrock for the past seven years, died at the home of her brother, Ben Ferris, 1008 North Iowa Street, at 5:30 o'clock Tuesday morning. Miss Ferris had been a victim of arthritis for 20 years and had been bedfast much of that time. Pneumonia was the immediate cause of her death. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon Thursday, at the Richerson Funeral Chapel with Rev. R.K. Whitaker pastor of the Twitty Baptist Church, officiating. Pallbearers were: Doc Guynes, Dola Gragg, Vernon Sherman, Herbert Knoll, George Harris, David Bliss, D.H. Woodruff and David Woodruff. Burial was in Shamrock Cemetery under the direction of Richerson Funeral Home. Miss Ferris was born April 26, 1897 in Ipava, Ill. She had been a resident of Shamrock for seven years, moving here from Deleon, Texas. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving are: three brothers, Ben H. and Floyd Ferris, both of Shamrock, and P.R. Ferris of South Gate, Calif; and a sister, Mrs. Daphne Lamb of Deleon.
