Bio

Mary Carda was born in Vienna, Austria (sic) on August 16, 1868. She came to Dakota Territory and homesteaded near Tyndall with her family in 1875. She and William Metzger were married here on June 6, 1903. Five children were born to this union, two of whom preceded her in death. William , Jr, was killed by lightning at the age of 16 and another son died in infancy. Mr. Metzger, a pioneer businessman, died Feb. 22, 1946. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Nettie Fletcher of Hartington, Neb. , and two sons, Ed of Tyndall and Roy of Winner, SD.
