Born at household #7, Domamysl, Bohemia. Frantisek (Frank) S. Carda married Maraja Cizek in 1854, and in 1873 the family immigrated from Czechoslovakia, then Bohemia in Austria-Hungary, via New Orleans to Spillville, Winneshiek County, Iowa. In 1875 they homesteaded land in Bon Homme County, South Dakota. -From Carda Heritage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ His first wife, Maraja "Marie" Cizek died Sept. 17, 1886, of scarlet fever. They were married Jan. 24, 1854 in Zhor, Bohemia. They had 8 children. He married widow Katherine Kose Kukrall as his second wife on August 30, 1887 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic church in Tabor, SD; they had no children. Katherine's first husband had dropped dead during a weight lifting contest in Bohemia, she emmigrated with her children to America. Her daughter Mary Kukrall was the wife of Frantisek's son, Anton Carda. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Frank Carda who has been a resident of Bon Homme Co. since 1875 died at the home of his son Antone Carda Sunday. A few days past 85 years. The last six months he had been confined to his bed and death came as a relief from infirmities of old age. He leaves to mourn his death four sons and four daughters, Antone, John, Mrs. Wm. (Mary) Metzger of this city, Mrs. Robert (Josephine) Kirk of Richmond, VA., Mrs. Wm. (Annie) Norton of Lake Andes, SD, Mrs. Antonia Smajkal of Opal, SD, Joseph Carda of Geddes, SD, and Mike of Brushie, SD. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning and his remains laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at Tabor, SD.
