Bio

The Texas Spur Services were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Afton Baptist Church for Ray "Tom" Bateman, 72, of Afton. Rev. C.L. Atkinson, church pastor, officiated; he was assisted by Rev. Bruce Parks, of the First United Methodist Church, Spur. Bateman died October 2 about 3:35 in Crosbyton Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born May 29, 1916 in Motley County. A farmer and rancher, he had lived most of his life at Afton. He married Pauline Day on October 10, 1936 in Spur. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Burial was in Afton Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home, Spur.
