He was born April 30, 1940, in Roaring Springs (sic Dickens County, Texas) to Pauline and Ray Bateman, Sr. They both preceded him in death along with his brother, Stanley and sister, Nan. Ray enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas for Rodeos and he served proudly in the U.S. Army .
