The Wellington Leader February 12, 1987 William Oliver Martindale, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Sonoma Valley Hospital. Mr. Martindale was a native of Glen Rose. He came with his family to the north part of the county in 1919 and moved to Sonoma, Calif, in 1937. He had been for 20 years the greenskeeper at Sonoma National Golf Course and later was the groundskeeper for Temelec. He was a member of the Northern California Superintendents Association and SIRS of Sonoma. The husband of the late Vallie Martindale. He was the father of Betty Knego, Sonoma; Wanda Ewing, Hawthorne; Wilma Hartnett, Santa Rosa; Patty Minyard, Bakersfield; Bill Martindale, Barstow, Charlie Martindale, Boise, Idaho; Richard and Ronald Martindale, both of Sonoma; and Garry Martindale of Cordelia. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was the brother of Irvin Martindale of McLean, Buck Martindale of Samnorwood, and Bart Martindale of Shamrock, and a sister, Mrs. Jack Hiett of Shamrock.
