OBIT from the Wellington Leader June 25, 1953 Friends from throughout the county gathered Thursday, June 18, to pay final tribute to H.B. Martindale, county resident for 38 years, who died at his home in Wellington June 16. Mr. Martindale had been in ill health for the past four years, his condition growing progressively worse during the time. It had been critical for a number of weeks before his death. Harmon Bea Martindale was born in Van Buren, AR, December 29, 1874 and at the time of his death he was 78 years, 5 months and 17 days of age. He let Arkansas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Martindale, at the age of four and grew up in Dewitt County. He was married at Straton, Dewitt County, to Miss Betty Wood in 1897. Later they moved to Glen Rose, where their children were born, and where they lived until 1910 when they moved to Shamrock. A year later they came to the Lone Mound community. Mr. Martindale farmed there and for two years at Aberdeen, until the mid 1930's, when he retired from active farming and moved to Wellington. Throughout his active life, Mr. Martindale participated in the affairs of each community in which he lived, working diligently for its welfare and improvements. He had served as a member of the school board for many years before moving to West Texas, and his interest in schools, as well as other phases of community life which characterized him as an upstanding citizen and a friend to all who knew him. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, having been baptized in 1898. Surviving Mr. Martindale are his wife and eight children, Elmer Martindale and Mrs. Frank Light of Wellington; Mrs. Jack Hiett and J.L. Martindale of McLean; Bill Martindale of Sonora, CA, Bart Martindale of Dozier; Mrs. Lloyd King of Loco and Buck Martindale of Shamrock. One son, Charlie Martindale, died in 1910. Other survivors are seven brothers and sisters, Van Martindale of Fort Worth, Odis Martindale of Denver, Walter Martindale and Miss Frankie Martindale of Leander, Mrs. Oliver Lewis of Waco, Mrs. Etta Soapes of Marlow, OK, and Mrs. Sally Rice of Flagstaff, AZ.
