Christine Theresa Dvoracek, born at home on October 28, 1906 in Tehucana Creek Bottoms near Tours, Texas died October 21, 2004 in Dallas, Texas. She was one of the 14 children surviving children born to John and Mary Dvoracek. Christine lived in West, Texas with her family until moving to Dallas in 1927. She soon after began her long career as a manicurist which was her joy in life until her retirement in 1998. Chris worked for 27 years at the old Jefferson Hotel Barber Shop across from Union Station, having started in 1928. After the shop closed, she she subsequently worked at barber shops at the Statler Hilton, the Southland Building, the Life of America Building and most recently at Jan's of Dallas in One Main Place. She often laughingly boasted that she had "held hands" with many of Dallas' "rich and famous." She talked of how she loved her job and how lucky she was because it was such a "fun" job. Many of her customers followed her throughout her career. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, John, Joe, and Louis; sisters: Irene Whitman, Mary Jansa, Justine Dvoracek, Albina Svrcek, Tillie Harrison and Anne Horton. Mass was at St. Edward Catholic Church, 4007 Elm Street, Dallas, Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in West, Texas. Dallas Morning News, obit, modified.
