Bio

Services conducted for Henry L. McGowan, Kimball County Farmer. Funeral services were conducted on Nov. 16 at Kimball and on Nov 17 at St. Mary's church in David City for Henry Lawrence McGowan, 70, of Dix, who died at Kimball on Nov. 11. He had been in failing health for several years. Rev. Earnest Slup conducted the requiem mass. Music was by the church choir. The pallbearers were Adolph Kosch of Bellwood, Rudolph Schmid of Columbus, John Mulligan, Phillip Schlentz, Ben Reisdorff and L.D. Snell of David City. Burial was in the family lot in St. Mary's cemetery. Henry Lawrence McGowan, son of Michael and Mary A. McGowan, was born June 5, 1884 at the family home north of Rising City in Butler county. He was educated in Butler county schools and later attended business college. A farmer all his life, he moved to Kimball in 1920 to engage in farming there. He was a member of St. Joseph's church in Kimball. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Loretta Kosch. Surviving are a brother, John C. McGowan of Grand Island; two sisters, Anna and Catherine of David City; and eight nieces and nephews. Among those from a distance who attended the funeral services were MR. AND Mrs. John Perkins, Mrs. James Dalton and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Morgan of Kimball; Mrs. Alfred Glade of Manhattan, Ill.; John Shields from Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. John C. McGowan of Grand Island; Bernard McGowan of Denver, Colo,; Francis Kelly. George Kearney and Frank Ripp of Shelton; Mr. and Mrs. John Massie of Norfolk; and friend a relatives from Columbus, Shelby, Bellwood and Rising City.
