The People's Banner, David City, Page 1, Col. 5, May 6, 1948 William J. Mahony Butler County Pioneer Passed Away Friday Wm J. Mahony, early pioneer of Butler county, passed away suddenly Friday night, April 30th, at St. Joseph's Villa, where he had resided for the past two years. He was 83 years of age. Funeral services were held in St. Mary's church at ten o'clock Wednesday. Rev. Vincent Callaghan had charge of the services and celebrated High Mass. Singing was by St. Mary's school choir with Sister Bertrand organist. Nephews of Mr. Mahony acted as pall bearers. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. Born in Hamilton, Illinois Feb. 3, 1865, Mr. Mahony came to Bruno with the Mahony family 76 years ago, the 13th day of February this year. He spent most of his life in Butler Co., a farmer by occupation. He is survived by three daughters, a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews, one brother Jim Mahony of Lincoln and one sister Mrs. Mary Leppert of Omaha. ------- Married Mary A.
