Taken from an old clipping of the Greeley, Nebraska newspaper, 1936 DEATH CALLS TOM MAHONY He Formerly Owned a Lumber Yard in Greeley Greeley friends of Thomas F. Mahoney learned Friday of his death Tuesday of last week in Los Angeles. News of his death was first received by his sister, Mrs. C. F. Leppert of Omaha. Details of Mr. Mahoney's passing have not reached Greeley. Greelites who have visited in California lately brought back word that Mr. Mahoney appeared to be in excellent health. Before coming to Greeley about 45 years ago Mr. Mahoney operated a lumber yard at Bruno, near David City. For about 10 years he was the owner of the lumber yard now belonging to S. E. Smith and sans. [sic] From Greeley Mr. Mahoney went to Portland, Ore. And purchased large lumber interests. The late T. M. Brown joined Mr. Mahoney in this venture. The Mahoney family moved to Seattle. Mrs. Mahoney died in Seattle 18 years ago. For the past few years Mr. Mahoney had resided in Los Angeles. Surviving are two daughters and one son. The daughters are Miss Ethel, who lived with her father, and Iris Mahoney of Arizona. The son is Arthur and he is a resident of Seattle. Funeral services were held at Seattle and burial was in the family plot there. Mr. Mahoney who was 74 years old, visited in Greeley about 10 years ago. During his 10 years of residence here he gained a wide acquaintance and his jolly disposition won for him many friends. He had been active in politics in the campaign of W. J. Bryan. He was an ardent democrat. He was a delegate at large to the national convention in Chicago when Bryan received his first nomination for president. ------------------------- This family had different opinions on how to spell Mahony/Mahoney it is spelled both ways in records.
