Born in Frydnava, Bohemia. Married Mary Chmelka on April 20, 1901 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Dwight, Nebr. ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' The Ulysses Dispatch (Ulysses, Nebr.), January 2, 1919, p. 1, col. 3 & 4 OBITUARY James Francis Korinek was born in Bohemia and was forty-five years of age the 28th day of last September. Deceased with his parents came to America when nine years of age, the family settling in Butler county where they lived until eleven years ago when they moved to Seward county. Mr. Korinek was married in April 22, 1900, to Miss Mary Agnes Chmelka of Butler county, the marriage occurring at the Catholic church in Brainard, the Rev. Father Klein officiating. Five children came to bless their home, two sons, James Charles and Joseph Charles, and three daughters, Mary Margaret, Laura Agnes and Rose Blanche, all of whom together with the wife and his aged mother survive him. Other relatives are also left to mourn his departure, although a brother and other relatives have passed to the Beyond during the past few weeks. Deceased with his family had lived on his farm four and one half miles south-west of Ulysses during the past eleven years and where his death occurred Thursday afternoon, December 26th 1918. Mr. Korinek became ill two weeks ago of Spanish influenza which terminated in pneumonia. With the combined efforts of medical skill and good nursing, supplemented by a strong constitution it was hoped the dread disease might be conquered but the patient gradually grew weaker until the end came peacefully on December 26th leaving sorrowing loved ones who will long for the touch of a vanished hand and sigh for a voice that is still. Deceased was held in high esteem by his neighbors who extended the helping hand during his illness which kindness was appreciated by the sufferer. Mr. Korinek lived the life of a practical catholic and was an honest and upright citizen whose place will be hard to fill. Deceased was kind-hearted and extremely patriotic and while in health ever realized that 'tis but a step between life and death hence he made provision in advance for those near and dear to him, having life insurance in several beneficiary orders. Mr. Kornek was a member of the "Catholic Workman" at Dwight during a period of twenty-two years past. He was also a member of the "Knights of Columbus", and the "Mid West Life Insurance Company." The funeral services were conducted Sunday morning at 10:30 o'clock his pastor Father Loughran officiating at a Requiem High Mass at the church of the Immaculate Conception at Ulysses where a wide circle of friends were present, many of whom at the conclusion of the church services, accompanied the remains by auto to the catholic cemetery at Dwight where interment was made, the Rev. Father Pazourek of Dwight performing the last sad rites which were extremely impressive. The pall-bearers were: Owen Gray, Gerald Gray, Joseph Geiger, Daniel McGuinness, P. W. Ward and Pat Ward. "Eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him." Our fireside has an empty chair, Our fondest hopes have fled. Leaving us naught but sadness And tender memories of the dead Into each life some rain must fall Some mingled joy and sorrow, Yet afterward the sunshine comes, The cheerful bright to-morrow. As sunshine follows the shadow May the light of an endless day Guard and protect the loved ones, Till death's angel shall call them away - Edith B. London. _____ CARD OF THANKS We are extremely grateful to our friends and neighbor [sic] who extended the helping hand during the illness and after the death of our dear one, and to the choir together with those who sent the beautiful floral tributes, we also tender sincere thanks. Your kindness will not be forgotten. Mrs. Agnes Kornek and children '''''''''''''''''''' Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), January 9, 1919, p. 4, col. 2 & 3 Ulysses James F.
