The Brainard Clipper (Brainard, Nebr.), August 25, 1937, p. 8, col. 3 JOHN HOTOVY SR. DIES John Hotovy Sr. of Dwight died last Saturday following an extended illness. His children, including his son Rev. John G. Hotovy of Scapoose, Oregon, were all present at his bedside during his last illness. Funeral services were held Monday morning at Assumption Church, Dwight. '''''''''''' The Brainard Clipper , September 2, 1937, p. 1, col. 2 OBITUARY OF JOHN HOTOVY John Hotovy was born at Bouchovany, Bohemia, on October 24, 1865, a son of Jacob Hotovy and Cecilie Votypka, and died at his home near Dwight, Nebr., on August 21, 1937, following illness of six months. He was nearly 72 years of age at the time of his passing. Mr. Hotovy came to America as a young man, possessed of little, but with his unusual concept of business together with hard work and self-denial he soon commenced to acquire property and he eventually became one of the country's largest land-holders and a citizen of prominence in his home community. He was married to Mary Mikulas in the Plasi Catholic church. To this union ten children were born, nine of whom survive their parents. They are James, Cyril, Frank and Miss Emma of Dwight, Anton of Brainard, Rev. John Hotovy of Scapoose, Oregon, Fred of Ulysses, Sisters Immaculata and Bernadette of the Ursaline Order of York, Nebr. A sister, Mrs. Joseph Coufal of Dwight also survives him. Mrs. Hotovy died February 11, 1915, and a son, Jacob, passed away about two years ago. Mr. Hotovy was engaged in farming throughout most of his lifetime with the exception of three years, 1896-1899, when he engaged in the mercantile business at Dwight. Funeral services were held at the Assumption Catholic church, Dwight on Monday morning, August 23, at nine o'clock, with Rev. John G. Hotovy, son of the deceased, as celebrant of the Requiem High Mass, Rev. Jos. Tupy as deacon, Rev. Otto Ekhaml as sub deacon, and Rev. B. Bauer O. S. B. as master of ceremonies. Rev. Bauer also conducted the services in the home. Other priests present in the sacristy were the Rt. Rev. Victor Mlejnek, Rev. F. Kopecky, Rev. Bede Cernik O. S. B., Rev. Alcuin Kasny O. S. B., Rev. Wm. Rezabek and Rev. Gregory Petrus O. S. B. Pallbearers were members of the K. D. Catholic Workman society of which organization Mr. Hotovy had been a long time member. Burial was in the Dwight Catholic cemetery. __ CARD OF THANKS We wish to extend our sincere appreciation to all our friends and relatives for their kindness and help in our time of grief, to those who gave spiritual and floral offerings, and especially to the priests, Sisters and K. D. Society members. The Hotovy Children.
