Genevieve Penner was born December 26, 1890, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on January 8, 1983, at the age of 92 years and 12 days. On August 28, 1902, at the age of 12 years Jennie Austin Penner arrived in Sutton, Nebraska, as one of 18 homeless children on the Orphan Train. She was taken to Sutton to live with Mr. & Mrs. Fred Englehart. Jennie, as she was called, was not adopted so she kept her name of Austin and attended school in Clay County. In December of 1913, Jennie married Fred Penner in York, Nebraska. They lived in Stockham form 1913 to 1942, when they moved to Aurora until their deaths. She was a member of the Stockham Methodist Church and was employed in several of the Aurora café's. Jennie has resided in the Hamilton Manor since 1974. She was preceded in death by her husband on February 6, 1965, one son Ernest, 2 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Those who survive to cherish her memory are 3 sons, LeRoy F., Lawrence E. and Melvin G. all of Aurora; 3 daughters, Dorothy Newlun, Thelma Fenster and Anna Medaris all of Aurora; a daughter-in-law Fern Penner of Hastings, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many other close friends. Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 11, 1983 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.
