Robert O'Brien, age 79, of Aurora died Tuesday night, April 27, 2004, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 1st at the First Christian Church in Aurora. Rev. Sam Fox will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. Robert Maurice O'Brien, the son of Clarence and Tina (Peters) O'Brien, was born at Aurora, Nebraska on March 28, 1925 and died in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 27, 2004, at the age of 79. He grew up in Aurora and attended Aurora Public Schools. When Bob was 17, he went to work for Bremer Dairy. Bob was united in marriage to Wilma Ott on May 10, 1950, at Aurora. In 1959 Bremer Dairy was sold to Abbott's Dairy of Hastings. Bob worked for Abbott's Dairy until 1982 when they closed. He then bought his route and equipment and went into business for himself. After working in the dairy business for 48 years he decided to retire. Bob also worked for several years as a projectionist for Walt Meier and several years driving a pilot car for Ott's Pilot Cars. Bob and his brother Jack were well known in a large area for their hobby of restoring player pianos, juke boxes, nickelodeons and calliopes. They also shared these treasures through participation in parades, the Plainsman Museum and other area activities for over 30 years. Bob was a member of the Aurora First Christian Church and a longtime member, supporter of the Plainsman Museum. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Clarence Jr., George, Gerald and two in infancy and two sisters, Evelyn and June both in infancy. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Wilma O'Brien of Aurora; three children, William O'Brien of Aurora, Dixie (Paul) Mooney of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Christina Doyle of Aurora; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
