Bio

Mary Elizabeth Romine, daughter of William T. and Susan C. Romine, was born at Blandinsville, Illinois, October 21, 1873 and departed this life at the Stewart-Brown Memorial Hospital January 12, 1960 at the age of 86 years, two months and 21 days. When a small child she moved by covered wagon with her parents to near Palisade, Nebraska, where they made their home. On November 29, 1892, she and Joseph Orr Hardy were united in marriage. One daughter and four sons came to bless this happy union. With the exception of 22 years while living in Loveland, Colorado she has resided in and near Stratton, Nebraska. At an early age she obeyed the gospel of Christ and was added to His church, of which she continued and active and faithful member until her death. Through the years she has been the source of aid, encouragement and guidance to her family and many friends in living a Christian life. She will be greatly missed by her children, for she was a loving, thoughtful mother. The interest of her home and family were always foremost in her mind. Preceding her in death are her father, mother, three sisters and three brothers. She was the only surviving member of the Romine family. Her husband preceded her in death on May 1, 1958. She leaves to mourn her passing, one daughter Hetty Bedford and husband, four sons, Lee, Ralph, Clyde, Frank and their wives, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves many other relatives and a host of friends. A precious one from us is gone A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled. For God in his wisdom has recalled This one his love has given; And though the body slumbers here, The soul is safe in heaven. Funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ in Stratton on Friday, January 15, with Gordon Naylor, minister of the Garden City, Kansas Church of Christ, officiating. Internment was in Rose Hill Cemetery. (Published in The Stratton Booster, Stratton Neb., January 21, 1960; courtesy of contributor Steven Hardy)
