RUTHERFORD HAYES5 COE (William Newton4, Vincent3, Stephen, Edward1) was born June 22, 1877, in Polk County, TN. A resident of McMinn County in his adult life, he was said to have been a large man, about six feet, one inch tall, with dark brown hair. A farmer and horse breeder, he died November 28, 1966, at Maryville, TN. Burial was at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Linsdale, TN. He married (1) September 5, 1898, in McMinn County, TN, Martha Ellen Trew, born June 6, 1876, at Trew's Store, TN, died December 17, 1954, in Chattanooga, TN, buried at Jones Chapel Cemetery, daughter of William and Nancy Elizabeth (Cameron) Trew; (2) November 26, 1949, in Monroe County, TN, Mrs. T.B. Gunter of Sweetwater, TN.
