JAMES WESLEY5 COE ( William Newton4, Vincent3, Stephen2, Edward1) was born April 11, 1856, in Polk County, TN. Short, with a long beard, he lived in McMinn and Polk Counties, TN, where he was a farmer. Seemingly always with a corncob pipe, he was active in Friendship Baptist Church. He died November 23, 1918. Burial was at Friendship Church Cemetery. He married Mary Elizabeth Slack, a large woman with dark hair, born May 23, 1858, died August 11, 1940, daughter of Henry J. and Sabina (Hatcher) Slack. Burial was at Friendship Cemetery.
