Son of John Sr. and Lillian (Kallus) Schobel
Lester J. Schobel, 89, of Columbus, passed away Oct. 24 at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston. He was born in Columbus, Feb. 15, 1920 to John Sr. and Lillian (Kallus) Schobel and married Nora A. Hoelscher June 8, 1942. He served in the 30th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, was a self-employed rancher and part owner of Schobel Truck and Tractor. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 2971 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6113 of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Martha Brasse and Eleanora O'Brien; and brothers, Clemons, Gus, Robert, Emil, John, Gilbert and Otto Schobel. He is survived by his wife; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry R. and Jo Helen Schobel of Houston and Billy W. and Marilyn Schobel of Columbus; grandchildren, S. Scott Schobel and wife Marie, Holly C. Madrigal and husband Michael and Sean L. Schobel and wife Tina; and six great-grandchildren, Luke Schobel, Lacie Schobel, Kaitlin Madrigal, Lauren Schobel, Raylee Schobel and Cambree Schobel. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28 at St. Anthony Catholic Church under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Father Dan Kahlich will officiate. Pallbearer scheduled are Luke Schobel, S. Scott Schobel, Sean L. Schobel, Derek Hoelscher, Charles Hoelscher and Mark Hoelscher.
