"THE INDEPENDENT," ROBERTSDALE, ALA., WED., NOV. 23, 1983, p2b COMMUNITY NEWS--STYX RIVER by Kathryn Weekley Our heatfelt sympathy to the family of Sallie Pierce Wing Hitchcock who died Friday, Nov. 4 in a hospital in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., where she had gone for treatment of leukemia and cancer. She was buried in Hinote Cemetery Sunday afternoon, following services at the Mack Funeral Home Chapel in Robertsdale. The memorial services were led by her grandson, Mike Wing, of Crestview, Fla. A special eulogy was read by Celia Wing, of Bonifay, her grand-daughter. The eulogy, in verse form, was written by Freda Wing. Pallbearers were grandsons, David Browder, Ricky Wing, Wesley Wing Sr., Kenny Wing and Steve Hitson, and great-grandson Wesley Wing, Jr. Sallie was first married to Harold Wing and they had five children. Late in life she married George Hitchcock. He had one daughter at the time he married Sallie. Sallie is survived by two sons, Herman, of Virginia, and Curtis, of Crestview; a daughter, Juanita Browder of Styx River; a step-daughter, Peggie Wallace of Styx River; a brother, Wesley Pierce of Robertsdale; two sisters, Daisy Thames of Robertsdale, and Colon Anderson of Rosinton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sallie's oldest child, Lloyd Wing, preceded her in death in April of this year, and her youngest, Dorothy Amador, died in January of 1979. Sallie was born March 17, 1899, the daughter of Wesley Pierce and Niccie Hinote Pierce, members of two of the oldest Baldwin County families.
