Herman Everette Wing, 86, of Bridgewater, passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Herman was born in Biloxi, Miss., on Feb. 11, 1928, and was a son of the late Sally E. (Pierce) Hitchcock and Harold Wing. He served 23 years in the U.S. Navy aboard five ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II, Korea and Vietnam wars. He retired as a senior chief radioman, and then continued his service as a civilian another 17 years as the inspector general of communications with the Naval Telecommunications Command, inspecting every naval communication station in the world. After retiring in 1984 he moved to the Shenandoah Valley, where he was a member of Sangerville Church of the Brethren and a former president of Sangerville Towers Ruritan Club. On Oct. 3, 1953, he was united in marriage to his wife, who survives. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Herman is also survived by two daughters, a son, two grandsons, and a great-grandson. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Wing and Curtis Wing; and two sisters, Juanita Browder and Dorothy Amador. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Sangerville Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Kevin Daggett officiating.
