Bio

Anna Koza Chmelka was born in Moravia, Czechoslovakia, on December 22, 1846. In 1870 she was married to John Chmelka. In 1872 they immigrated to Saunders county, Nebr., living on a farm in the western part of that county until 1904 when they moved to Prague, where they lived for twenty years. From there they moved to Bee, making their home with their youngest son, August Chmelka, where she died on January 3, 1930, after an illness of a few days. She was 84 years and 11 days of age. She leaves to mourn her death three sons and three daughters: Mrs. Mary Consoli, John A. Chmelka, Frank H. Chmelka, August Chmelka, Mrs. Anna Polak, and Mrs. Rose Coufal; also 35 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Joe Husak, and two brothers, Vaclav and Frank Koza, besides other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 7, 1930, at the St. Vaclav church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. A. Hanun, with burial at the Bee cemetery. As an early settler of Saunders county she went through all the hardships of the early days. She was a kind and helpful mother and will be remembered by her children.
