Born in the village of Slavetice, town of Hrotovice, county of Znojmo, Moravia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic). Married Jacob Koza. Following his death she immigrated to the United States with her children in 1872. The passenger list for the ship Ohio , which arrived in Baltimore, Maryland from Bremen, Germany on June 23, 1872 includes the following family group: Anna Koza, age 50, born Austria; Franziska, 23; Antonia, 21; Caroline, 20; Franz, 15; Wenzl, 13; and Johann, 7. Settled in Skull Creek Township, Butler County, Nebr. where she farmed (1880 and 1885 census records). Moved into Bruno after she retired from farming. ```````````````````````````` From a biography of her son Frank Koza in Memorial and Biographical Record and Compendium of Biography...of Butler, Polk, Seward, York and Fillmore Counties, Nebraska.... (Chicago: Geo. A. Ogle & Co., 1890), 336-37: "Mr. [ Frank ] Koza was born in Moravia, Austria, in December, 1856, where he passed the first fifteen years of his life. He had two younger brothers and five older sisters, and in 1871, upon his father's death, these eight children accompanied their mother to Nebraska. She [ Anna ] saw an opportunity for them on this side of the ocean, and though it required the undergoing of every kind of privation it meant life and knowledge for all her children, and she was willing to face the dangers of the new world for the sake of what it meant in the future for those she loved. They were among the earliest settlers of Butler county, and endured all the privations and hardships that were incident to those pioneer days, but her action was justified in the very substantial prosperity and comfort which her boys and girls have attained."
