Bio
Services for Woodrow Baxter, 71, of Greenville and formerly of Hopkins County, were held Saturday in the Coker-Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Greenville with the Rev. Herman Sargent officiating. Burial was in Brashear Cemetery with Michael Burton, Wayne Burton, Steven Burton, Shane Baxter, Jerry Baxter and Mike Baxter serving as pallbearers. Mr Baxter died Thursday in his home. He was born Sept. 29, 1916, in Hopkins County, the son of Frank Baxter and Vera Morris Baxter. He married Mary Young, Oct. 26, 1938, in Vernon. She survives. He was a member of the Hillside Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Baxter, in 1976, and one sister. Other survivors include one son, Gerald Baxter of Richardson; one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Burton of Greenville; three brothers, Elton Baxter of Greenville, Max Baxter of Sulphur Springs and James Baxter of Carlsbad. N.M.; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Jo Beck of Sulphur Springs, Mrs Pauline Barnes of Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Pansy Yankey of Dallas, Mrs Lola Hickman of Grand Prairie, and Mrs Jewel Loafman of Kress; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
