Bio
Margaret was the daughter of Emily Turley Cole, the first of Emily's children after she married William Kimsey Cole in 1851. Emily had two sons with an unknown Turley, her maiden name is unknown by this Findgrave contributor. The 1850 census of Wayne County, NC says she as born in Johnston County, NC, and there's a Turley there in 1840 that may be the father of the Turley Emily married. A 20 year old Sallie Turley is in the household with Emily and her two small sons in 1850, who may be a sister to her husband, whoever he is. Margaret married Isaac Polk Payne and children named in a legal document are Julia and Uriah Turley. The document states, "By 1895 Julia A. Payne is Julia A. Berry." After Margaret died, Isaac went to Collins County, Texas and died in 1901. He's buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery there and was erroneously listed as I. D. when this contributor looked in March 2014 and requested it be corrected. Besides half sibling John A. (married Mary Ann Scarbrough) and William A. Turley, (never married), Margaret had three Cole siblings, Francis Marion who never married, Julia, and Mary who married Joseph N. Logan.
