Ben Zbranek (88764874) Suggested edit: Zbranek, Ben I. Ben Zbranek Body Found Late Thursday The body of Ben Zbranek, who disappeared in the area of the Colorado River near Nada last Tuesday evening, was located at around 3:30 p.m. last Thursday some eight miles down stream from the point where it is believed that he entered the river waters. Cause of death was not determined, however, Justice of Peace W. A. Hefner held an inquest at the scene and ruled that death was from accidental drowning. Mr. Zbranek's truck was found on the Zbranek farm near Nada last Tuesday afternoon. His wallet and other personal belongings were found in the truck. Later searchers found his hat and other clothing on the banks of the river. Game Management Officer Sam Center and Eagle Lake Police Officer Russell Sillavan located the body eight miles downstream lodged in a pile of drift wood. The body was partially clothed and he had on rubber boots indicating that he was wading in the river when for an undetermined reason he was drowned. Garwood Volunteer Firemen, numerous other volunteers from Nada and Garwood, the Columbus, Glen Flora, El Campo, and Wharton fire departments and officers from throughout the area, including the County Sheriff's Office, Highway Patrol and Game Wardens and others participated in the two day search. Mr. Zbranek was born Sept. 26, 1925 and was 46 years old at the time of the accident. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ignatz Zbranek of Nada and had resided in that area for all of his life but was residing at the time of the accident at the home of a sister in Wharton. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nada and the Nada K. J. T. Lodge. He was not married. Funeral services were held at 5:30 p.m. last Friday, June 23rd from the Triska Funeral Home and later at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Henry Rolf officiating. He was placed to final rest in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jerry Shimek, Jr., Ronnie, Bobby and Ricky Shimek of Wharton; Mel Fajkus, Ervin Fucik, Kenneth Kainer, Jerry Kainer and Gary Kaluza of El Campo; and Jerry Janish of Nada. His parents preceded him in death, his father having passed away just recently. Eagle Lake Headlight June 29, 1972, pages 1 &12 Contributor: Helen Dolezal (49748278)
