Bio

Viola Clara Zbranek Kaluza, 90, of Garwood, passed away on May 20, 2025. She was born on November 16, 1934 in Nada to the late Ignac and Mary Prihoda Zbranek . Viola was a seamstress at I.C. Manufacturing for many years. After retiring from I.C., she treasured the lifelong friendships she made with many of her coworkers. Viola found happiness in the things that truly mattered: spending time with her loved ones, celebrating life on the river, and sharing laughter over games of dominos, poker, and cards. Whether it was a family river party or a lively night of polka music, Viola's warmth and spirit lit up every room – and every heart – she touched. Known for her competitive card-playing and even more for her generous heart, Viola was the kind of woman who made everyone feel at home. She created traditions that brought her family together and memories that will live on for generations. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Pavlicek (Dennis) of Victoria; sons, Glenn Kaluza of Garwood and Gary Kaluza (Jeanette Hasse) of Taiton; grandchildren, Bonnie Wilson (Jake), Dustin Pavlicek, Dr. Holly Pavlicek and Jason Kaluza (Melissa) and great-grandchildren, Makenzy, Landon, Ashlyn, Chase, Cole and Brielle. Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William "Willie" Kaluza; son, Allen Ray Kaluza; daughter, Diane Kaluza; brother, Ben Zbranek and sisters, Lydia Fucik and Albina Fajkus, Leona Shimek and Edith Kainer. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Nada with a Rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. The funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Peter Yeboah-Amanfo officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park in El Campo. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Kaluza, Dustin Pavlicek, Jake Wilson, Ervin Fucik, Ken Kainer, and Bob Shimek. Memorial donations in memory of Viola may be made to the Garwood Volunteer Fire Department, St. Mary Catholic Church or Garwood Veterans Memorial Library.
