Bio

Herald Coaster, March 20, 2003: Funeral services for Edna Kassler, age 92, of Damon, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville with the Rev. Fred Banda officiating. Burial will follow in the Needville Public Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday March 21, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Chapel, 3103 School St. in Needville. Serving as pallbearers are John Dietz, Warren Smalley, Marvin Mesecke, Ernest Mesecke Jr., Alton Mesecke, and Marvin Preuss. Mrs. Kassler passed away Wednesday March 19, 2003, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. She was born Oct. 25, 1910 in Needville to parents, Ernst and Jane Heuvel Mesecke. She and her husband, Otto Kassler, farmed cotton most of their lives. She owned the Farmerette Cafe in Damon and was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Vernon Gorka, and a son, Curtis Kassler. She is survived by her grandchildren, Carla Dietz and husband John, of Seattle, Wa.; Jimmy Kassler and wife Sharon, of Arlington; Janet Smalley and husband Warren, of Friendswood; and Harlan Kassler of Austin. She is also survived by her beloved great-grandchildren, Breanna, Sarah and Andrew Dietz; Devon and Katie Kassler; and Sheldon, Hailey and Cierra Smalley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
