Herald Coaster, January 12, 2001: Funeral services for Curtis Konrad Kassler, 65, of Damon, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel in Needville, with the Rev. George Kuebler officiating. Burial will follow in Needville Public Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Marvin Mesecke, Ernest Mesecke Jr., F.D. "Dutch" Gordon, Tom Sawyer, Allan Kaliszeski, and Marvin Preuss. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Leissner and Kirk Schmidt. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 3103 School St. in Needville. Mr. Kassler passed away Jan. 10, 2001 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was born March 11, 1935 in Needville to Otto and Edna Kassler. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 in Frankfurt, Germany. He later received his BA degree from Sam Houston State University. He was employed by Dia-Log in Bay City for 17 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Sons of Hermann, serving as vice-president from 1996 to 1997, and president from 1997 to the present. Mr. Kassler was preceded in death by his sister, Vernon Kassler Gorka in 1980, and by his father, Otto L. Kassler in 1986. Survivors include his mother, Edna C. Kassler; four children, including his daughter, Carla Kassler Dietz and her husband, John, of Seattle, Wash.; a son, Jimmy Curtis Kassler and his wife, Sharon, of Arlington; a daughter, Janet Kassler Smalley and her husband, Warren, of Georgetown; and a son, Harlan L. Kassler, of Austin. He is also survived by seven cherished grandchildren, Devon, Breanna, Sheldon, Sarah, Katie, Hailey, and Andrew. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
