George Daniel West was the son of David West and Amelia Hooley. He was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah, on Oct. 23, 1863, and died there on Feb. 16, 1925. He came from a family of nine sons and four daughters. He was reared and spent his entire life in Pleasant Grove. His father and grandfather William West were baptized in 1848 in England. George D. was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. On Dec 10., 1885, he married Cassie (Cassa) Ann Walker, daughter of Henson Walker, Jr. and Mary Green. To this union were born seven sons and three daughters, all of who grew to maturity except one son, Milton. They were sealed to each other and received their endowments in the Logan Temple on Feb. 16, 1888. Their entire marriage life was spent in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Both were very familiar with the rigors of pioneer life. Their home was of soft rock construction, heated by a coal range, and until 1925, lighted by coal-oil lamps. There was no inside plumbing and for many years the drinking water was secured from a well. They sustained their large family from fruits, vegetables, and meats raised on a small farm. additional income was secured from various types of work at the Lehi Sugar Factory, the Interurban Railroad, Threshing, etc. Their life was simplicity itself, "with a few of the frills".
