Pearley West was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She was the fourth child of George Daniel West and Cassie Ann Walker. She was a very fine young girl who was struck with scarlet fever and became deaf at an early age. She was placed in the school at Odgen, Utah, and won a special scholarship to a Chicago school for the deaf. She married Otto Paul Farley, on 5 June 1912, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, a deaf printer and brilliant young man. They had two children. The girl died soon after birth. Pearley's husband died that same year leaving Pearley to raise a young son, Owen Theodore. Cassie, the grandmother, helped while Pearley went to work. Several years later she remarried Stanley Broadie from Heber, Utah, and had two more children. She was expecting another baby but uremic poisoning set in and took her life as well as her expected baby. Pearley was a very fine person and kept cheerful and busy in spite of her life of deafness. She was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother. By Owen D. West
