Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Thursday, 3 October 1997 ORD - Bernice Wadas, 86, of Ord died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, Thursday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic School or the donor's choice. Mrs. Wadas was born on Aug. 15, 1911, on a farm in Sherman County to Frank and Katie (Plebanek) Golus. She grew up on the farm. She attended a Polish school for four years and then attended school in rural Sherman County. She married Benedict "Ben" Wadas on Sept.l 12, 1938, in Loup City. They farmed northeast of Ord until they retired and moved into Ord in 1981. Mr. Wadas died on Feb. 2, 1997. Mrs. Wadas was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She was a past member of the altar society. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading. Survivors include three sons, Benedict, Jerome and Karl, all of Ord; two daughters, Eva Nelson of Ord and Elaine Tongish of Littleton, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Felix Golus of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Jerome Golus of Denver; and two sisters, Dorothy Levinson of Grand Island and Evelyn Kalkowski of Auburn, Calif. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Hubert, Clarence, Leonard and Frank.
